Guzmania (Bromeliad) Care
Meet Guzmania
Guzmania's are one of the most common bromeliads grown as a houseplant, and one of the most stunning. Its green leaves are topped by clusters of red, orange, yellow, purple, or white flowers.
Light
Guzmanias prefer and are happiest in bright, natural light. An east or west exposure would be best but just be sure they avoid exposure to any direct, hot sun because they’ll burn. They’ll be fine in low light for a few weeks, but they won’t be as long-lasting. If you want them for the long haul & have them produce pups, bright light is the ticket.

Guzmanias have a tank, cup, vase or urn (the central well which the flower stalk arises out of) which is how they collect a lot of the water they need. You want to keep that vase about 1/4 of the way full of water & flush it out with fresh water every 1-2 months to avoid any build-up of bacteria.

What is the best size pot for my bromeliad?
A Guzmania's roots act as anchor and do not grow very large. A small pot about 4-6 inches should be large enough to hold our Bromeliad Guzmania plants. Using a pot that is too large will result in the potting soil retaining too much water and can eventually lead to root rot which causes the plant to die.
Why are my leaves Turning brown and drying out?
This most likely means that your Guzmania is lacking moisture, which could either mean you are not watering your plant enough or it is in an environment with low humidity. Try watering your Guzmania more frequently and maintaining a regular watering schedule.
Why are my leaves yellowing?
The most common reason Guzmanias have yellow leaves is due to improper soil moisture/ overwatering. When watering your plant make sure to pour enough water so that liquid pours out the bottom drainage holes into a saucer. Pour out water in saucer, do not let the plant sit in water, this may lead to root rot.
